An exceptional museum replica of King Leonidas head bust. A unique solid bronze sculpture of solid bronze, masterfully handmade with the traditional method of casting bronze, museum type oxidization and verdigris finish. The statue is mounted on a black Greek marble base.King Leonidas was a leader of the city-state of Sparta until his death at the Battle of Thermopylae. He was defeated by the Persian army in around 480 B.C. Even though the battle was lost, his death at Thermopylae was seen as a heroic sacrifice. After being outmaneuvered he took three hundred of his fellow Spartans who stayed with him to fight and die. Almost everything that is known about Leonidas comes from the work of the Greek historian Herodotus.
