Museum replica of a horse statue. A unique solid bronze sculpture of solid bronze, masterfully handmade with the traditional method of casting bronze, museum type oxidization and verdigris finish. The statue is mounted on a black Greek marble base.
This horse bust statue is inspired by the “Acropolis Horse” that is exhibited in the Athens Acropolis Museum. The original piece was made by marble of Paros island and it was discovered near the Erechtheion area, in Acropolis, in 1887. It is estimated that it was crafted during the archaic period. It is not clear whether it was part of a larger group of horses statue representation.
The statue has a frontal position and it appears with a great sense of movement and alertness is wonderfully highlighted through a very realistic rendering of the details. As there are no traces of a horseman on the horse, experts estimate that the rider was standing in front of the horse, holding and getting prepared to fit the bridle on the horse’s head. A wonderful décor item of classical antiquity and art.
